Wrist Cuff and a Little Treat

I’m currently working on a wrist cuff. I’ve made quite a few masculine ones in the past for Todd but nothing feminine despite numerous ideas that crossed my mind. So here’s my very first work-in-progress of decidedly feminine wrist-cuff! Everything on it is reclaimed or vintage. I’ve dyed all the lacey bits except for one element (bet you can’t tell which!) in coffee (and vinegar to set the color) for a worn-out look. I’ll probably still move things around on it a bit before it’s done.

And here’s my little treat. It’s a tiny orange meringue puff with strawberry cream in the middle. It’s impossibly fluffy and completely delicious.

hi kyoko!
i love the vintage-y things your making. a lot of belly dancers are super into this aesthetic right now. one of the faves: http://www.blacklotusclothing.com/gallery.php. thanks for inspiring me! miss ya!

I totally love love love the link you sent me!! That’s exactly what I love — so gorgeous! I never thought about this neo-victorian style (I’m not sure how it’s really called, I think everyone calls it differently) in the context of belly dancing but I can see how that would be completely fabulous! Are you working on something with it???

hi kyoko!!
no, not really. the lace-y, found objects thing seems to work really well. our latest set has costuming that is inspired a little by this, the DIY budget conscious version. i’ll try to find some photos. you should keep making these things. i love the bag with the key too!!

I’d love to see those photos! Living in Portland inspires this sort of crafting (repurpose, upcycle, found objects) and it’s really really cheap to do — so I imagine I’d be doing a lot more of this kind of thing! I’d love to make an entire garment (like the ones in the link you sent me!) but I don’t have the time/energy/space all in one place right now…so I’ll content myself making small things :)
