To be honest, I really don’t care much for sunshine but I do love how veggies and fruits are tasty and cheap in summer! Which means of course time to hang out at Farmer’s markets on weekends. (Aren’t those pink potatoes pretty??)
Here’s lunch at the market: bacon and greens on bagel with cream cheese. We don’t eat bacon by amounts perilous to our health but these ones were super tasty.
Look at this lettuce — so big and happy!
We got a small bunch of asparagus. This really thick one and really skinner one were part of the same bundle!
I quartered really big ones and halved slightly big ones and grilled the bunch with lots of fresh garlic and rosemary.
I had been meaning to go seek out some cupcake shops around Portland for over a year…and finally, our very first Cupcake adventure! We went to Cupcake Jones in Pearl district and got a dozen mini-cupcakes.(Weird lighting due to photo taken in the car while Todd ran into the store to pick up a few items!)
Here’s red velvet cupcake (which immi decided was her’s and ate TWO).
And this one is vanilla. I really liked this one!
These cupcakes were really really yummy (and pretty too!) — best cupcakes I have ever had…but that’s probably because we haven’t had much proper cupcakes
I’m looking forward to sampling all the cupcake shops around town over time. Living in Portland, I have come to loose interest in finding “best” of anything since there are so many very very yummy things to eat and pretty places to go to that the deciding on which is “best” is just silly. I love all the variety that makes PDX so exciting!
We went to the Farmer’s Market in Beaverton today and had a good time getting some fruits and veggies even though it was definitely a bit too hot (summer weather like this has been rare in Portland — I suppose I should enjoy them even though I prefer chillier overcast days…). Here’s some grapes we found, it’s the bestest grapes I’ve ever had — EVER!
We got some gorgeous artichokes!
And mysterious looking purple peppers! I’ve never seen purple peppers, but it does indeed smell like a very yummy pepper.
Salad I had at the market was totally delicious! Lettuce, wheatberries, and chickpeas topped with lamb. I think I’ll try making wheatberries at home, I haven’t only because I know that they take long time to cook, but they are totally yummy in salads — I think it might be worth it!
We ventured out to the Saturday Market (which is oddly open both Sat/Sun!). I got german sausage on a bun with grilled onions, peppers and sauerkraut. Yum — especially the sauerkraut which was very fresh and crunchy!
Coffee time at Heart Roasters. I got americano. It was so completely delicious that I wished I had gotten a bigger cup!
