Portland weather isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it is mine. This summer weather has been perfect for me having been mostly in the better half of 70′s — lots of sunny days, some cloudy days, and smattering of rainy days. There’s nothing more depressing to me than weather forecasts that predicts (even knowing that they are wrong all the time!) sunshine above 78 °F (that’s my upper threshold for acceptable heat index) for entire week.
Anyhow, the sky looked like it was going to rain, but it hadn’t the entire morning. Since it’s pointless to wait for rain to come, we went out to the park to see if it doesn’t rain.
I think that grey sky is very pretty.
Cloudy with chance of bubbles!
It’s not raining yet, but Immi is prepared! She is probably hoping for rain.
We had 2+ hours of fun outside before it did finally start drizzling!
It’s 2 weeks late but… Happy New Year! This site is back up (Sparklandia is going to take just a bit longer) and I’m glad to say that migration of our digital homes have been a bit tedious but Todd and I are glad for having had the opportunity to clean up the digital clutter that we’ve created over the years!
It’s been chilly and drizzly out so we’ve been staying in a lot with fire in our fireplace. Kids don’t seem to mind it though. Immi’s been painting a lot.
And we’ve set up a little art space for Ashland. He loves crayons! We got rid of huge container full of assorted crappy crayons and got a small set of really nice non-toxic (sans paper wrappers!) big triangular crayons. We’ve all been much happier for it. We thrifted the metal bowl for the crayons — it’s solid cast aluminium which makes it perfect for the purpose (light weight but unbreakable!).
As for end of 2010 activities…we made trail mix!
…and had totally fabulous pumpkin tart.
…Winter Faeries (that would be Todd and I) came while kids were sleeping and got rid of all the crappy toys and replaced them with just a few nice (environmentally mindful, durable and safe) ones.
…and I watched Lucian get bigger and bigger by the minute.
Lucian has been a very convenient baby. He hardly ever makes a fuss, eats well and sleeps well. He likes being held, but doesn’t complain much when he is not. …And, I was very pleased to find that he enjoys being in a sling!
I made this grey ring sling (I used thick-ish jersey knit fabric, zigzag stitches to accommodate stretchy-ness of the fabric and these rings) before Ashland was born (because Immi and I loved this style of sling, and my homemade one was a lot more comfortable than the fancy store bought counterpart). But I hardly used them with Ashland because he was far too wiggly for this type of sling.
When Lucian is in the sling, it’s hard for me not to peek into it and imagine if he was snugly curled up just like this in utero.
Happy Halloween! The weather was actually nice today (not nearly cold enough to need a jacket, some blue sky, and no rain!) so we decided to venture out to THE Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island.
Immi is a Halloween Faery today.
And Ashland is a Dracula. (I know Draculas in movies don’t have tridents, but I thought it’s only fair since Immi gets a faery wand).
There were of course pumpkin patches everywhere on Suvie Island…
…But who wants to get muddy in pumpkin patches (we saw people coming out of corn maze, hay rides, and pumpkin patch completely covered in mud probably because it had rained yesterday!) when we can frolic in fields of flowers?
The field was beautiful in slightly macabre sort of way that is autumn, with flowers in various stages of life cycle — some still trying to bloom despite the cooler weather…
…And others decaying.
Immi and Ashland didn’t get any candies, but we stopped by a cafe on the way home where Immi got hot chocolate and Ashland got chocolate chip cookie.
Today, I’m exactly 28 weeks along which marks the first day of 3rd trimester and 12 more weeks to go until the due date. That said, no medical effort will be made to stop the labor if it starts at 36 weeks (usually), so really anytime after 8 more weeks is a fair game. Where did time go? 9 months of pregnancy feels shorter with each successive ones.
The first time around, I knew exactly how far along we were all the time — I’ve hardly taken note of it this time. It doesn’t make the baby No.3 any less special though. We already know that this little guy will be completely different from Immi or Ashland. He feels happiest to me when I’m being creative and seems empathetic when I’m feeling less than spectacular. He moves around gently all the time (Ashland hurt often — there were lots of kicks, jabs and even tugging…is that even possible? And immi hardly ever moved.) and immediately responds to touch.
It’s hard for me to imagine what it would be like with 3 kids, but I know that it will soon be as if we’d always had all of them. One thing I know is that around this time next year when I make double portion of pancakes, I won’t have leftovers (I started doubling up the portion recently because one batch is too small) and that when I make annie’s mac&cheese, I’d have to make 2 boxes and not 1.
